League of Legends - Tips for Playing Amumu, the Sad Mummy
74
Introduction
Amumu, the Sad Mummy, is one of the best champions in League of Legends because he fits well into many team compositions. As a tank, Amumu's Bandage Toss makes him a great initiation. Also, Amumu's ultimate AoE stun allows him to readily charge into any team fights and disable the entire enemy team. Lastly, Amumu's despair makes him an especially well jungler.
Some general tips for playing Amumu:
- What distinguishes a good Amumu player from the bad is the ability to land the Bandage Toss, so definitely learn it very well.
- Amumu's AoE stun can disable the ENTIRE enemy team. Try to get as many people in the ult as you can.
- If you play Amumu as a jungler, he is VERY reliant on the blue buff in the beginning. Make sure you coordinate with your teammate to guard it very well from enemy invasion.
- Amumu is very team dependent. Be careful that you do not charge into fight without your whole team following up on your attacks.
- Because Amumu is extremely team dependent, it might be useful to tell your team the cooldown countdown for your ultimate so your team doesn't charge in when you don't have your ult ready.
Amumu's Passive: Cursed Touch
Amumu's attacks reduce the target's magic resistance for a short duration.
Comments: At highest level, Amumu can reduce enemy's magic resistance up to 35, which is very useful against squishy champions (as many have only up to 30 base magic resistance). Make sure you auto attack a few times along with your abilities.
Amumu's Q - Bandage Toss
Amumu tosses a sticky bandage at a target, stunning and damaging the target while he pulls himself to them.
Comments: Like I've mentioned before, this is the most important skill that you must learn well if you want to play Amumu. It allows you to initiate a team fight by pulling yourself toward the enemy team, and possibly following up with your other AoE stun. The only thing that you must be aware of is the timing to use this ability. Your team MUST follow up after your bandage toss, or else you are just risking your life for nothing. The stun duration is only 1-sec, so use the time wisely. Because you can use Bandage Toss to pull yourself through walls, you can pull yourself to neutral monsters to escape.
Amumu's W - Despair
Overcome by anguish, nearby enemies lose a percentage of their maximum health per second.
Comments: Because enemies lose a percentage of their maximum health instead of per number of HP, this ability is what makes Amumu extremely threatening to stand close to. Even tanks will find their HP shredding when they charge up near Amumu. Use this ability to protect your squishies by keeping enemies in range of your Despair to force them to back out. Because it heavy drains mana early game, be careful not to keep Despair toggled for too long.
Amumu's E - Tantrum
Permanently reduces the physical damage Amumu would take. Amumu can unleash his rage, dealing damage to surrounding enemies. Each time Amumu is hit, the cooldown on tantrum is reduced by 0.5 seconds.
Comments: Nothing too unusual. Tantrum's passive helps Amumu to survive better in fights while its active is Amumu's small AoE attack. Because of the cooldown reduction on Tantrum on every time Amumu is hit, along with Despair, makes Amumu a pretty fast jungler.
Amumu's R - Curse of the Sad Mummy
Amumu entangles surrounding enemy units in bandages, damaging them and rendering them unable to attack or move.
Comments: This ability is one of the BEST AoE abilities in League of Legends. With the right positioning, Amumu will be able to stun up the ENTIRE enemy team for 2 seconds. Your teammates can then utilize this quick 2 second time frame to deal as much damage as possible, while you should continue to protect your team with your Despair and Bandage Toss. Remember, you NEED your entire team to follow up in order to for this ability to become useful. Lastly, because of this huge AoE stun, you can use it to set up your teammates' attacks that require the enemy team to be locked in place, such as Miss Fortune's Bullet Time or Katarina's Death Lotus.
